12 Towers Ocean Paddle Race 2020
Relax on Currumbin Beach and watch Australia’s best SUP athletes compete against the clock on a challenging 15-kilometre course from Snapper Rocks to Burleigh Heads. 12 Towers Ocean Paddle Race, held each year, is an offshore spectacle to watch along the Southern Gold Coast, and an iconic stand-up paddle-boarding event which takes its name from the 12 lifeguard towers competitors pass as they race to the finish line.
This event will take place over two days, also involving a shorter course that will finish at Currumbin Alley, mere footsteps from our location. To absorb all the action, mark your calendar for 12 Towers 2020 on the weekend of March 6.
Bookends – Simon & Garfunkel Through the Years
In a short drive from Currumbin, visit The Star Gold Coast this March for an evening of Simon and Garfunkel performed by sensational tribute duo Bookends, made up of Dan Haynes and Pete Richards.
An internationally acclaimed act, Bookends bring the songs of Simon and Garfunkel to life in their authentic live tribute, which has stunned fans in the US, UK and other countries around Europe. Through the Years pays homage to their early days right up to their chart-topping global success, which shouldn’t be missed for Australian fans on March 7.
Several songs of Simon and Garfunkel will also be performed live in Rolling Vietnam Thunder – a story-driven theatrical concert with emotionally charged war-inspired songs from the ‘60s and ‘70s – coming to The Star Broadbeach on March 21.
Gold Coast Superhero Weekend
Also in Broadbeach this March, treat the kids to three days of superhero excitement next to Kurrawa Beach at Gold Coast Superhero Weekend 2020. Following a huge attendance last year, Gold Coast Superhero Weekend is back for more beachfront meet-and-greets, merch stalls and cosplay displays, culminating in the popular Gold Coast Superhero Parade.
This atmospheric event will arrive alongside Supanova Comic-Con Gold Coast, which will take over the Gold Coast Convention Centre – a stone’s throw from Kurrawa Beach – for two days of gaming and comic book exhibitors. Enjoy both in a 20-minute drive from Currumbin on March 13, March 14 and March 15.
Movies Under the Stars Elanora
Everyone loves outdoor cinema, and Gold Coast Movies Under the Stars won’t disappoint when it comes to Elanora in March with 2019’s The Lion King.
At Elanora State School – less than 10 minutes from Currumbin Beach – make yourself comfortable on the lawn for a free, family-friendly showing of the high-grossing animated blockbuster – a perfect night out for the whole family with pre-movie kids entertainment and snacks to purchase onsite. Don’t miss this Movies Under the Stars event in Elanora on March 14!
Bowlzilla Gold Coast
Bowlzilla is another upcoming event in Elanora, held yearly by ASF to showcase the region’s up-and-coming skateboarders. For fans of the sport, this high-energy competition offers lots to soak up and enjoy at the famous Elanora Skate Park, including live outdoor art, music performances and back-to-back park and bowl action.
Now in its fifth year, Bowlzilla 2020 is expecting a bigger turnout with a surge of new Australian skateboarders eager to flaunt their skills. If you’re seeking a lively afternoon out with lots to take in, head to Elanora Skate Park on March 14. H3: St Patrick’s Day 2020 Celebrate St Patrick’s Day on the Gold Coast! Ireland’s internationally celebrated festival is an experience like no other on the Gold Coast, where the region’s best bars and venues come alive with traditional Irish entertainment, dancing and, of course, bottomless barrels of Guinness.
In just a 10-minute drive from our Currumbin accommodation Gold Coast resort, experience St Patrick’s Day 2020 in full swing on Marine Parade Coolangatta, where there will be live Irish music from mid-afternoon, mouthwatering food and fresh pints on tap. Corona Open Snapper Rocks
A stone’s throw from Coolangatta, the WSL Corona Open returns to the Gold Coast this March for nearly two weeks of pro-level surfing at the world-famous Superbank.
Kickstarting the 2020 WSL Championship World Tour, this 11-day tournament invites all to kick back on the beach for non-stop action on the waves featuring the world’s biggest names in surfing. The Gold Coast Corona Open is a must-attend event for surfboarding fans, complemented by a location that’s famous for having some of the best surfing conditions in Australia.
