21st SWELL Sculpture Festival: Get Ready for Queensland’s Largest Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

by | Jul 13, 2023 | Local Area & Events

SWELL Sculpture Festival, Queensland’s largest outdoor sculpture display, will return from September 8 to 17, 2023.

Currumbin Beach, Queensland’s most beautiful and cleanest beach, is the site of the 10-day event. You can interact with over 70 awe-inspiring and thought-provoking sculptures created by local, national, and worldwide artists. Isn’t that exciting?

SWELL Sculpture Festival (SWELL) is a multidisciplinary arts organisation that combines people, art, and place. SWELL has displayed 873 sculptures in the main show on Currumbin Beach since 2003, with a portfolio value of $15.5 million.

SWELL was the result of a shared creative moment between two minds. Natasha Edwards and Kylie Mitchell-Smith first discussed creating a new art experience for everyone in 2002. It was about making art in a welcoming environment, and it eventually evolved into the SWELL Sculpture Festival, a free outdoor sculpture show on Currumbin’s gorgeous beaches. On a sunny September weekend in 2003, 6,000 people attended the first SWELL Sculpture Festival, which featured 23 sculptures.

In 2023, the 21st SWELL Sculpture Festival will continue to provide various unique experiences, including guided twilight walks around the artworks, live music, comedy, masterclasses, artist talks adjacent to the sculptures, and artist-led workshops.

SWELL Sculpture Festival touches the hearts and minds of all who attend. Do you want to participate in this fantastic festival? Then plan your trip now and reserve a Currumbin Beach accommodation for easy access.
